45 Park Avenue
New York, NY
This 21-story condo building is framed in concrete flat plate and supported primarily on spread footings. Due to its proximity to the subway tunnel below Park Avenue, the westerly part of the building is supported on deep piers socketed into bedrock. The building also contains parking and retail space on the lower floors. In spite of the adverse height restriction imposed on the building, a 21st floor and luxurious ceiling heights were made possible by framing the typical floors with an exceptionally thin slab.
