9 Orchard Street

New York, NY

The historic Jarmulowsky Bank Building located at 9 Orchard Street is being converted into a luxury hotel. This landmark building in Lower Manhattan was constructed with a steel framed structure in 1912. The project includes a new horizontal addition in the form of a 6-story reinforced concrete building built on the adjacent lot and a 2-story structural steel vertical addition. Other key structural engineering tasks include a new reinforced concrete stair core built within the existing steel framed building, a new lateral system for the expanded building, new foundations, extensive façade and building repairs, and the rebuilding of the rooftop domed spire structure, an essential architectural feature of the original building.
