Sharon Welcome Center

This new facility includes a visitor center, the office for the State of Vermont's Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and a structure housing a display of tropical plants. The column-free space of the visitor center is accentuated by an exposed structural steel frame. A system of monumental retaining walls as well as the bridge connecting the center with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial have been designed in cast-in-place concrete. Though LEED certification was not sought by the State of Vermont, this project features significant “green” building systems: a ground coupled, closed loop water source heat pump system, a “living machine” waste water reduction/recycling in-house system, day lighting features, and local materials for construction.
